Trailer fest - "Chernobyl Diaries"...
As some of you might know - I have a long-standing morbid fascination with Chernobyl and Pripyat, situated in Ukraine, where a nuclear disaster in 1986 caused a population of 50,000 to flee. It was a terrible event that has resulted in long-lasting damage, but also a bizarre opportunity to peek into a very tangible example of what a post apocalyptic world would look like.
As a big fan of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of videogames (Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat respectively), my interest in all-things Chernobyl related went beserk when I was introduced (again by Neil over at HPOTD) to this trailer for a new horror movie set (and seemingly filmed) in the area.
I'm not a fan of the Paranormal Activity films though, it must be said (I just had no real interest in them), and this flick is co-written by P.A. originator Oren Peli (along with Carey and Shane Van Dyke), however while it may have that hand-held vibe, it's not yet another 'found footage' flick (a sub-genre that has been over-used in recent years). Now, this flick could end up being total tosh, or it could end up being a really creepy and atmospheric slice of 'urban explorer' horror, but whichever it might end up being, I'll certainly be watching simply due to the location - surely one of the creepiest and most disturbing places on the planet.
