Flavours of the Month: May 2012...

LOOKS:

Shameless Screen Entertainment - "Phantom of Death", "Who Saw Her Die?", and "The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh" - follow the links for full DVD reviews.

Mad Men Seasons 2 through 4 - TV time, and the small hours of the morning as temptation took over, was entirely replaced for a couple of weeks with an obsessive catch-up with Don Draper and the gang. Next up, season five.

Blue Velvet (Blu-Ray) - preposterously, the release in the UK does NOT feature the 52 minutes of newly discovered deleted scenes! Fortunately, the American release is Region FREE on Blu-Ray, so I imported it. For any fan of Lynch's darkly twisted vision of the hell that lies beneath the white picket fences of Americana, it's well worth investing in.

The Real Ghostbusters: Season 1 - I used to adore this show as a child, so having spotted this on the cheap, I decided I'd sprinkle a daily dose of nostalgia into this month.

The Inbetweeners Movie (Blu-Ray)

SOUNDS:

Tell Em Steve-Dave: Overkill - only available to Zune users (in a short-lived attempt by Microsoft to use sponsored podcasts to attract people to their music player), I found these on a podcast website and promptly downloaded them. Originally recorded and aired several months ago, the TESD guys (whose podcast I've followed since it first arrived) initially started out with supernatural-themed episodes, before skirting back to more traditional territory. A must-listen for any TESD fan.

Guns 'n' Roses "Lies"

Ringo Deathstarr "Sparkler" and "Shadow EP"

Adam T. Burke "Pacer"

PowerGlove

Journey "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)"

Alice Cooper "Welcome 2 My Nightmare"

Angelo Badalamenti "Mulholland Drive" OST

Moby "When It's Cold I'd Like To Die"

Ennio Morricone "Who Saw Her Die?" OST

Nora Orlandi "The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh" OST

VIBES & FLAVOURS:

The Walking Dead: Volume 13 "Too Far Gone"

The Walking Dead: Volume 14 "No Way Out"

The Walking Dead: Volume 15 "We Find Ourselves"

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Dirt 3

Summer
- early May was pretty chilly, and then all of a sudden from one-day-to-the-next the weather does a complete one-eighty and it's all sunshine, blue skies, and heat. Out comes the desk fan and the inevitable malaise (for the American readers, we Brits don't have air conditioning in our homes), tempered only by ice cold drinks and wide open windows whenever there's a bit of a breeze going.
