Expensive slop, gore-soaked punch-ups, and cool-but-frustrating indie vibes are just some of what's been setting the tone of my September/October 2025...

Exploitation Nation Issue #8 On Sale Now
Recently I wrote an article for Issue #8 of the movie magazine Exploitation Nation. The theme of the issue is 'Defend a Film', where each contributor writes about a movie they enjoy but which is commonly derided by the wider viewing public. I opted to write about George A. Romero's final film, 2009's Survival of the Dead (which you can find on page 94 of the issue).
Exploitation Nation #8: Witnesses for the Defense! Every movie is someone's favorite and in this issue, we asked our writers to defend a movie only they seem to like. From "Grease 2" to "Ernest Goes to Jail" to "Godzilla '98" to the actor Kevin Costner, we profess our love for the things that we feel deserve more love. PLUS an exclusive interview with director Terry Gilliam and his long-awaited "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote"!
You can get a copy of Exploitation Nation #8 via Amazon in either eBook or paperback format, just follow the links below or search your region's Amazon website.

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi - quick review (spoiler free)...
What's it about?
After destroying the Star Killer base in the previous episode, the remnants of the Resistance are on the run with the New Order pursuing them, their total destruction within Supreme Leader Snoke's evil grasp. Meanwhile, Rey meets the mythical Luke Skywalker and gains new experience with The Force as Poe Dameron's rogue sense of rashness is challenged by General Leia Organa.
Who would I recognise in it?
Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyongo', Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and more.
Great/Good/Alright/Shite?
Episode VII blew the doors off the box office, but was criticised for hewing too closely to Episode IV in terms of story and structure, and the death of an iconic character ruffled a few feathers. Episode VIII, meanwhile, treads more of its own path and enacts a few bold choices that are surprising for a franchise this old and financially important ... and, of course, the most ardent complainers of the social media world are still whining...

Well there we have it - the first half of season three is done and it was another cracking episode. New episodes return to AMC on February 10th, so it's just a little more than two months before we can return to that cliffhanger. In the meantime, enjoy some memes for "Made To Suffer"...
