Double Bill Mini Musings: Butt Monsters and Wolf Cops...

Bad Milo:
What's it about?
A stressed-out guy struggles to deal with his problems, so naturally a murderous beast shoots out of his butt and starts killing people!
Who would I recognise in it?
Ken Marino, Gillian Jacobs, Patrick Warburton, Stephen Root, Peter Stormare, and others.
Great/Good/Alright/Shite?
It's a movie about a monster that comes out of a guy's arse and goes around killing people, what's not to enjoy here? Snappy, gory, and enjoyably silly, fans of dark comedy and practical puppet F/X (sometimes like the sweet/sour mix of Gremlins) will have plenty to chuckle over. Good.

WolfCop:
What's it about?
Alcoholic cop Lou Garou (Leo Fafard) is a sheriff's deputy in a run-down, small-time town, until he answers a disturbance call that changes his life. The following night - a full moon - he transforms into a wolf: half man, half cop, all wolfcop - and takes his furry brand of justice to the streets!
Who would I recognise in it?
Erm...
Great/Good/Alright/Shite?
A spirited indie horror comedy from Canada, this really is a tale of a merry band of filmmakers all chipping in together - pulling themselves up by their bootstraps - to bring a whacked-out dose of full-force fun to the silver screen. Building popularity on the back of an extensive social media and convention campaign - and winning the CineCoup funding competition - WolfCop is one of the most inspiring flicks of recent years for the filmmaker hopefuls of the future. The film itself is briskly paced, efficiently plotted, and gleefully indulges in some gore-ific set pieces (the screaming man without a face being a particular highlight). Knowingly cheesy, and with it's tongue firmly in-cheek, WolfCop just wants to entertain - and it certainly succeeds. It's not always slick, and there's a few rough edges or missed opportunities for additional gags, but writer/director Lowell Dean & Co have put together a funhouse ride of a calling card. Bring on WolfCop 2! Good.
