Faces of Death (Daniel Goldhaber, 2026) Review

Find more horror reviews here.

“DIY horror is trafficking right now.” How do you resurrect and reinvent a semi-obscure horror franchise that focused on 'real' death and destruction to shock its audience many years before anyone had even heard of something called the World Wide Web and viral videos? In the case of this unexpected 2026 rebirth of the 1978 original, the approach is to make things timely to meet our current world of social media...

The Pyjama Girl Case (Flavio Mogherini, 1978) Blu-Ray Review

Find more giallo reviews here.

“Just because it's written down it's true, huh?” By 1978 the heyday of the Italian murder mystery – or 'giallo' – had been and gone, but that didn't mean there was nothing of interest still to rinse out of the well-strained genre. Writer/Director Flavio Mogherini's murder mystery casts aside much of the classic tropes and visual styling of the typical giallo film (black gloved killers, gleaming knives, an escalating series of grisly deaths, European glamour) in favour of – egads! - just one murder in, of all places, Australia's Sydney with its sun, sea, and sand. Love Goddess of the Cannibals (Joe D'Amato 1978) DVD Review

Find more Shameless Screen Entertainment DVD reviews here.

“You'll die of pleasure!” Also known as 'Papaya dei Caraibi', Love Goddess of the Cannibals concerns itself with Papaya, a voracious lover and apparent voodoo priestess, who uses the lure of enduring sexual adventure in a tropical paradise to ensnare the male workers at a nearby nuclear reactor. Given a lingering sexual charge by the mucky mind of Joe D'Amato, director of Death Smiles on a Murderer (1973) and the notorious Emmanuelle in America (1977), this is certainly a film for fans of classic European sleaze.

The Bloodstained Shadow (Antonio Bido, 1978) DVD Review

Otherwise known as 'Solamente Nero' in its native Italy, The Bloodstained Shadow is a twisted and highly atmospheric giallo directed and co-written by Antonio Bido (Watch Me When I Kill) set in a 'hypothetical Venice' where murder, Catholicism, and alternative spiritualism clash in a semi-blasphemous mystery wreathed in mist and deadly shadows.
